Born Alessandro Vittorio Falier, into a merchant household collapsing under debt, he was twenty-nine when he made the bargain with the demon Nerezza that gave him youth eternal and beauty unfading. He has spent five centuries reinventing himself, opera singer in Naples, actor in Hollywood, always theatrical, always careful, always moving before anyone notices he hasn’t aged.
