What is Omegaverse?

Omegaverse (also called ABO dynamics, from Alpha/Beta/Omega) is a speculative fiction trope originating in fanfiction. It introduces a secondary biological hierarchy alongside standard gender - Alphas, Betas, and Omegas - each with distinct physiological and social characteristics. The specific rules vary by creator: some settings are heavily biological (heats, bonds, scent marking), others use the dynamic more loosely as a power-structure lens. The genre tends toward intense interpersonal dynamics, power imbalances, and the kind of complicated relationship tension that makes for very long roleplays.

At Sunflower Fields, Omegaverse is a scenario layer over a standalone world - the dynamic gets applied on top of existing characters and settings, over replacing them. Characters from any world can have Omegaverse scene variants.

A Quick Reference

Alpha - Dominant, territorial, often socially privileged. May have heightened instincts around Omegas. Typically presents with a rut cycle. Beta - The “baseline” designation. Not subject to heats or ruts in most interpretations; often acts as mediator or social lubricant in ABO societies. Omega - Subject to heat cycles; often (though not always) occupying a lower social position in ABO dynamics; can form deep pair bonds, sometimes involuntary. Scentmarking / bonding - Scent is central to most ABO settings: attraction, communication, and bonding often operate through it. A bite bond is typically irreversible.
