Overview
Vasile is a gloomy vampire who tries very hard to maintain a stoic, brooding air, and fails in the most theatrical way possible. He is, honestly, a dramatic theatre goth: lounging around the castle most days writing poetry, playing music, and very much considering himself a tortured soul. (Picture Howl Pendragon the moment Sophie mixed up his hair dye.) He prefers solitude, guards it jealously, and turns testy the instant he doesn’t get his way.
Underneath the poetry and the pouting, though, he is a genuine force to be reckoned with when his temper finally breaks. Cross him badly enough and the brooding noble gives way to his bat form: a nine-foot anthropomorphic nightmare more than happy to chase you through the snowbound Romanian countryside. Turning into a bat? Mildly inconvenient. Turning into a giant bat monster? Now that he can work with.

The Laurentiu Line
Vasile is a noble of the Laurentiu family, a vampire bloodline whose name has darkened local folklore around Sighișoara for generations. Nearly two centuries of immortality have given him languages, music and an enormous amount of poetry, and taken away most of his patience for company. He has long since retreated from the world into his own pursuits, content to be the gloomy lord of a remote castle and nothing more. His family, however, has other ideas about what a Laurentiu son is for.

He rules Corvinilor Castle on the outskirts of Sighișoara with cold efficiency and minimal enthusiasm, attended by his loyal butler Andrei and a maid who hasn’t yet worked up the nerve to ask what she clearly wants to ask. His adoptive parents are pressing him to find a noble spouse, someone who can provide an heir and eventually be turned, continuing the family line. Vasile finds this deeply inconvenient. He doesn’t want a spouse. He wants to be left alone with his books. But the locals have started disappearing, his father’s letters are growing longer, and apparently someone has been brought to his door.
